The sword is probably the most popular weapon during the age of the Feudal Warlords. Samurai swords were deadly weapons wielded only by the most skilled of warriors. The sharp-edged sword could chop off a man’s head in a single graceful stroke. Of course, there were other types of swords to match the variety of warriors that were trained at that time. Each person had a specific function and, therefore, had a specific weapon.

Parallel to the Asian regime, swords also reigned supreme in Europe, where the Roman legion utilized swords of different styles to build an impenetrable defense against any conqueror. Most well known were the pointed and heavy javelin for long-range attacks, and the gladius or short swords used for stabbing at close range.  The warriors who used them are well trained and highly skilled in neutralizing threats to the Great Roman Empire.

The battles were lurid as the soldiers basically hacked and slashed at whatever enemy blocked their path. These gruesome scenes are relived in the imagination of people who engage in costume play, using fantasy swords to aid their imagination. Perhaps the excitement is what engages these young adults to invest in costumes and equipment just to play games. Proof of cosplay popularity is the availability of rare items like the Cold Steel Two Handed Greatsword online. Almost anything and everything a player would need may now be ordered online. The viability of the enterprise is clearly a result of a wide market for these fantasy swords.
