The Gallic Idea of Head Protection

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in Helmets, Other replicas

thumbnail AH6306 The Gallic Idea of Head ProtectionThe Imperial Gallic ‘A’ is the third in the line of Roman helmets. Dungeon Knight offers a replica, the Imperial Gallic ‘A’ New, that rivals only the authentic helmets worn by warriors  together with their swords hundreds of years ago.

Historically speaking, the Imperial Gallic ‘A’ was not the traditional helmet worn by Romans. Instead, the design was derived from the helmets used by the Gauls. The Gauls have lived in the ancient regions of Western Europe which now includes some parts of Northern Italy, France, Belgium and the Netherlands. They are mostly associated to the ascendants of the French populace.

It is easy to determine the difference between a regular Roman helmet and the Imperial Gallic ‘A’. The latter has more elaborate design. If you will notice, the eyebrows on the helmet are more embossed compared to that of the earlier Roman helmets. Another difference is the ridged extension found at the back which is supposed to guard the neck. Clearly, the Imperial Gallic ‘A’ has been intuitively designed to protect the warrior’s head in whichever side. Gallic smiths are known as some of the ancient world’s source of the most innovative construction and design. The Romans were able to take advantage of such in military tradition which has paid off right away.

Now we can marvel in the same exquisite craftsmanship with the Imperial Gallic ‘A’ New replica found over at Dungeon Knight. It may not be the original helmet but it sure is a very accurate representation that only deserves a space in our collection. Who knows, in a few years time, you might be able to afford an authentic Roman helmet for your private collection.

Short Swords That Kill

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in Fantasy Swords, Swords

thumbnail 06 19 Short Swords That Kill You might be wondering why pirates carry with them short weapons compared to the lengthier samurais or swords. Well, technically speaking these are also considered swords, however, long swords are not advisable for pirates because most of their combats happen in compressed spaces. More hand-to-hand combats occur and when they actually have the opportunity to draw a sword, it better be something that he can use to stab when they are just a few inches away from the opponent.

However, we can still find several pirate swords available in Dungeon Knight today. Remember that some of these pirates were actually able to get a normal sword by looting some navy vessels who didn’t know better. Obviously, these navy soldiers were no-match with the short swords of the pirates.

But what exactly are these short swords we are talking about that later on in the World War II have also been used by the allied navy forces? These are called cutlasses. And it’s just great that Dungeon Knight offers some authentic replicas—the Pirate Cutlass with Scabbard that is perfect for our swords collections.

Now collectors would find these cutlasses interesting especially whenever they imagine Captain Jack Sparrow of the famous film trilogy, the Pirates of the Caribbean, slashing his way through a wall of British colonialists. The history behind the cutlasses creates more stories to tell whenever you show someone your collection. Isn’t that what collecting is all about? Telling other people about interesting stuff that are related to each and every piece that they find there?

Roman Armor that You Can Actually Wear

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in Armor

thumbnail 35 382 Roman Armor that You Can Actually WearThe Roman 2-Piece Body Armoury is made of 16 gauge polished carbon steel which ensures an almost perfect reproduction of the real thing, at least the ones that we see in the movies.

Roman armor was used in the classical era. It is distinguished as a military armor used by Roman soldiers back then and was produced using ancient metal casting techniques. Despite the lack of sophisticated technology, these armors are proven to be greatly effective in improving the defense of Roman soldiers against swords back then. It would be a shame if today’s reproduction would turn out as suckers for the original.

Dungeon Knight ensures us that the Roman 2-Piece Body Armoury set available for pre-ordering on the website are much like the real thing. But they would also encourage buyers to go and try out the armor as it is completely usable. Otherwise, it would also look great in your collection of Greek and Roman stuff.

The Roman 2-Piece Body Armoury set is also complete with the leather strap as we will find in the original. Manufacturers ensure the accuracy of the replica by doing comprehensive historical research on the era, focusing on military history.

The only difference, probably, is its weight. The replica merely weighs 9 lbs which is a lot lighter than the Roman armors used during the time of Julius Caesar or even that of Nero’s. That is why we are encouraging collectors to actually try the armor out. They could really wear it in a costume party which is way cooler than just looking at it displayed in your room.

Dungeon Knight offers accurate replicas of what the 300BC to the 18th century have considered as their protection against enemy attacks. Any warrior needs a Mail Armor Shirt. If you consider yourself to be a warrior, then it’s time that you own one, too.

It is said that the term “mail” was derived from the Latin word “macula” which means “net.” As you can see, the chainmail armor looks like a net of sturdy metal that protects the wearer from stabs, cuts and bruises from swords.

This particular Mail Armor Shirt is made of 16 gauge links. These links are combined in the international pattern wherein four links are linked through a fifth one. Such pattern is common among European chainmail armor. If you are looking for an authentic Medieval costume, then incorporating this chainmail on your Halloween attire will surely get the attention of your cosplaying friends.

You might want to ask how the manufacturers from Dungeon Knight have managed to come up with such an accurate representation of the European chainmail armor. To tell you honestly, the project has been the product of an ongoing research. These are actual representations of the artifacts found in museums and in private collections of some of the world’s wealthiest nobility. The size of the links is carefully crafted to resemble the 7/16” outer link pattern and 3/8” inner link pattern.

The shirt itself fits up to 54” chest size, 33” in length while the sleeves are approximately 18”. Again, the most accurate representation if it is worn by a regular size warrior of the medieval age.

thumbnail 45%20UC1309 Hack your Way into Lord of The Rings Glory with the Uruk Hai SwordNo swords and sorcery fan should go without ever reading the epic stories from J.R.R. Tolkien’s fictional universe Middle Earth. From its vast, glowing plains to its treacherous and rocky mountain wastelands, the world of Middle Earth is filled with magic and wonder at every corner. It is also the setting for the popular franchise The Lord of the Rings, which was created by none other than Tolkien himself and was recently reintroduced through film.

The story of the Lord of the Rings tells of the not-so-innocent ring of power which fell into the hands of hobbit Bilbo Baggins, denizen of the Shire. After his wizard friend finds out of the origins of his ring, which happens to be the One Ring, previously owned by the Dark Lord Sauron to rule over the other Rings of Power in his campaign to rule over Middle Earth, and apparently corrupts its wielder. A fellowship is then formed with representatives from the ranks of men, hobbits, elves, and dwarves, to escort Bilbo’s nephew Frodo Baggins—the only being who is able to withstand the One Ring’s corruption—to Mount Doom to destroy the ring once and for all in the very fires it was forged in. When Sauron finds out about this quest, he sends his forces out to intercept the crew and recover his ring, utilizing the powerful Uruk-Hai: creatures which are a cross between goblins and orcs.

Now collectors can own the very sword favored by the Uruk Hai in the films. This officially licensed The Lord of the Rings Uruk Hai Scimitar Sword is one of the most popular Lord of the Rings swords made available online by Dungeon Knight, an official distributor of movie swords. It features a 24 and three quarters of an inch long blade forged of tough carbon steel, with a leather wrapped wooden handle and comes with a wooden display plaque—a great addition to any sword collection.
