Information on the Minie Ball

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

22 51 Information on the Minie BallIt was unfortunate that during the American Civil War the commanding officers from both sides did not grasp at how useful their armaments were at the beginning of the conflict. None of the officers altered their approach of how war would be fought up to the Appomattox Courthouse. They depended on what they learned from the tactics used by Napoleon Bonaparte who was successful in subduing all of Europe. The commanding officers thought Bonaparte’s tactic would also enable them to win the war. One thing for sure during that American Civil War, technological advances were not as fast as it was supposed to be. Rifles used during the Napoleonic Wars were far more reliable than the muskets that were used before.  When the Crimean War occurred, more advanced rifles were produced and Claude Minie’s exclusive rights to bullets appeared on the scene and because of the accuracy of the rifles up to 300 yards, it became unnecessary to form firing lines. Soldiers used Civil War Replica Bullets which were almost the same as those created by Minie.  These bullets were known as Minie Balls that were conical in shape made out of soft lead and there was a gap at the rear to allow the exploding gas to fire the bullet into the rifled grooves of the weapons. Despite the introduction of guns, the use of swords and bayonets were not yet over. The bullets and other Civil War accessories are major items for the Civil War buff and history.

Historic Hunley

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

28 051 Historic HunleyThe American Civil War started on February 17, 1864 and lasted for three long years. The Union Navy established a stronghold line of defense against the Confederates. The Confederate soldiers were slowly losing ground. The loss of life at Gettysburg and Vicksburg was the beginning and the Confederacy would eventually lose the war. Unless the Confederates can break up the blockade so that supplies from could reach them. On that fateful day, the U.S.S. Housatonic that was sitting at the mouth of Charleston Harbor was assaulted and went under the surface as it was bombarded by the C.S.S. Hunley, one of the first successful submarines. The Hunley is the forerunner of what the submarines look like nowadays. The Hunley was managed by hand and pushed through the water and need seven enlisted men to turn a large screw.  The submarine was therefore a manned torpedo because of the manner she sank enemy ships using a barb joined to a contact explosive. The show of aggression against the Housatonic was an achievement that sent the warship to the bottom of the sea in over five minutes.  The Hunley did not return to base according to directives. Even if it was considered a death trap the Hunley managed to overcome its enemy and to commemorate this historic battle take a look at the C.S.S. Hunley Civil War Ironclad representation found in your library together with other Civil War accessories and swords from that eventful era that made its mark in American history.

The War Axe, a Simple Yet an Effective Tool

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

SFMA8632S The War Axe, a Simple Yet an Effective ToolAxes are just one of the many useful items that Man has ever produced.  These axes are the first known tools and were associated with the Stone Age people who for years made use of tool fashioned from flint and stone to cut firewood and hunt for food. You do not have to go through a lot of training just to learn how to use an axe. Unlike swords wherein you have to know how to handle them, the medieval axes were simple and easy to handle and within a couple of days one can get the feel and hang of how to effectively use during war times. A War Axe when it accidentally lands in the hands of a Viking gone wild can be very destructive. With repeated blows, one can render his enemy helpless and defenseless. Take note that the War Axe has a lower point at the top of its head as compared to your regular wood axe. This is to make the blows from the axe more effective and devastating.  So when one was to use a shield made especially of wood, the axe would easily break it down into pieces rendering the shield useless.  The axe has a spike at the end that can easily go through an armor and render a person dead right away. If you have an army that needs to be outfitted with weapons, arm them with axes. They may be cheap but they turn into fierce weapons of mass destruction.

All About the Tomahawk

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

dknight 401386 All About the Tomahawk During Medieval times, men and women of the royal family carried knives and daggers carefully hidden among their garb. They carried with them Medieval daggers not just for personal safety but also to eat food with. The knife was a special item that men and women carried at all times for a lot of reasons the same way that we have knives in our own homes for various purposes. Only in rare occasions will lords and ladies paying homage or visiting their king and queen without a dagger or two. A person seen with a dagger was not considered an enemy unless that dagger was drawn out. A lot of the royal courts did not allow the presence of swords when visiting his king and queen.  The only weapon acceptable in court was the dagger. After all one has to be ready and be prepared to defend oneself for any likely attack from within their ranks who would take every opportunity to draw blood from any of their enemies. If you are fond of collecting things from the past and if you are interested in the Renaissance, go ahead and add the Belt Dagger. The weapon is largely designed for practical purposes and this is the kind of weapon that will be seen in noblemen as well as the commoners. The dagger is a very useful item to help get on and complete their tasks. You can have this sharpened and this along with you if you go out hunting.

What it Takes to be a Knight

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

PK 2200 What it Takes to be a KnightA knight in Christian Europe during the Middle Ages was considered a holy warrior.  He was answerable to God first and foremost. But it was his lord and master, the king who take care of his needs. Knights during the Crusades took their allegiance to God seriously as well as to their king. Knights who pledged to honor chivalry seriously were quite decent and dignified. And indeed they did protect their lands with justice and fairness as well as they could. Faith helped shaped their character which in turn became a beacon for others to follow. This kind of power has not diminished on the many men who try to be like their forefathers who had the guts to follow virtue instead of worldly pleasure.  The Christian Knight Sword best represents the ideal of virtuous living compared to other knight swords.  The Christian knight sword appears like a crucifix. The sword had a no-nonsense look and plain looking, free of any embellishment. It was made for battle and it was not produced to make one proud of having killed somebody with it. After all, there is no glory when you have killed somebody.  You know for a fact that it is considered a mortal sin if you kill a person. A knight makes use of his swords when he is under threat and his subjects as well as his territory have to be defended and protected. A knight also uses his swords when the whole of Christendom is under siege.

Ancient Roman Innovation

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

AH3851S Ancient Roman Innovation The Roman Legionnaire is the world’s pioneer military group. The Romans thought of the scheme of having an army that could professionally go into combat and broken into small units with a name of its own. Each battalion has its specialization founded on discipline and rigid training. Roman legions are consistent and quickly train their group and fully equip them with military gears. Each soldier brings with him the exact type of sword called the Gladius. This is a great tactic on their part as this makes it easier for them to bring a new supply of the same kind. Their opponents bring with them an assortment of swords and other military stuff that is difficult in replenishing. The Roman armor is a standard issue and comes in different sizes and shapes to fit the different height and form of the legionnaires. An example is the Lorica Segmenta in Stainless Steel. This kind of armor provides protection to a soldier’s body especially the shoulders, chest and stomach. It is lightweight and flexible and versatile, too. One legionnaire after another can wear it at moment’s notice. This innovative protective stuff has certainly influenced the art of war. The Roman deserves to be recognized for all their efforts. Most of their ideas and advances in the form of weapons and strategies are also in used by the military all over the world. Aside from the weapons that they introduced, they also deserve recognition for the uniqueness of the construction of their roads.

Kama – Fatal and Deadly

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

se301 Kama – Fatal and Deadly You have seen a lot of ninja films. These are lone hired killers who covered themselves all in black and keep their faces covered also. They kill whoever gets in their way with rapid movements, without so much noise, and without compunction. To the people of Japan, they do not consider ninjas as heroes. They are persons of rank low with nothing better to except kill people left and right.  Those who have been trained as Samurai warriors take offense to these kinds of hired killers. They couldn’t swallow that such nasty people could do dastardly acts.  Consider the ninja weapons. These types of weapons are destructive at the same time can prevent attacks and destruct enemies. You have seen star-like weapons called shiruken. These are not dependable, cannot be carried in large amounts and quite simple.  You will find the sickle known as kama as part of the Kamas – Set of Two – Unsharpened Steel Blades.  These are in fact farm equipment used for harvesting rice and other grains. Swords are costly devices even for the Ninjas. One does not go into battle without having one. This is a very fatal killing machine with its very sharp blades. However, this is also the type of arsenal that one can easily let go. Warriors who carry swords with them look very fierce and mysterious at the same time. However, you also know that even if one is equipped with excellent weaponry there is no guarantee that you will emerge the winner.

The Dueling Days

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

22 1048N The Dueling DaysIt may be an unfortunate event to some people when duelling was ended due to the death of Alexander Hamilton who was shot by Aaron Burr in a pistol duel. Nevertheless, even though during that time when duelling was faced out, it still took how many years before the activity came to a complete cessation. Originally, duels were started with the use of swords. However, when they realized that firearms were more effective than the close combat weapon, they began to be reliant on it. Examples of the firearms that they used are the flintlock pistols as well as the muskets which were the first weapons to substitute the swords. During those days, the pistols’ accuracy was not really that effective since the combatants stand approximately twenty paces apart or about forty yards. This kind of distance would surely decline the weapons’ accuracy, leaving the aftermath to fate alone regardless of how expert the combatant is. The Classic French Dueling Pistol (silver) is another type of weapon being used and they were more advanced but also more pricy. How these weapons were made were very stunning and the creator of the gun was even more recognized in comparison to the user. In a duel, the combatant usually has a second person or can be his friend. The second person’s role is loading the pistol that is to be used by the duelist. At the end of the duel, the result would then be settled no matter what kind of outcome it would turn out to be. Those were the culture that was observed before in South America.
