Brutal Force

dknight 600626 Brutal Force

Among the many medieval weapons, which one is your favorite? Is it swords or the 16th Century German Mace? Swords are perhaps the most popular, the most liked among weapons and with good reason. They look mean and deadly and anyone yielding a sword seem to be more powerful than his opponent who can be holding a spear or an axe. Swords have the power to cut through flesh and limb, and can inflict fatal wounds that will bring about the end of the enemy. They are also lightweight and can be held by one hand, leaving your other hand free to get another weapon or a shield to field blows. Swords also require specific sets of skills and that is why anyone handling a sword is considered more skilled than other warriors. Swords are very dangerous, and even the one handling it can be inflicted with pain if he is not careful. This seems to indicate that a warrior with a sword is a more courageous soldier than the next. But the 16th Century German Mace has its own advantages, too, so you may also consider it when choosing your favorite. This may not have the fame and glory of swords but a lot of warriors held this mace because of its accessibility. It was one of the easiest to make, compared to swords which required a lot of metal and polishing. Maces, just like hammers, can be done easily and you don’t need to train especially for this. As long as you know how to brandish a weapon about, you can be sure that you can handle the mace.

Start Your Sword Collection Right

sw321 Start Your Sword Collection Right

Swords are a strong part of our militant past.  Unlike axes or hammers, swords are among the few ancient weapons of war that are dedicated toward that purpose.  It was a mark of distinction to own a sword.  Most warriors or soldiers weren’t given or issued one, because spears and axes were so much cheaper and required less training in order to wield effectively.  That meant that only a privileged corps of men could possess a sword.  This was no less true for the samurai.  In feudal Japan, it was illegal for anyone other than samurai to even touch a sword without permission.  For a peasant to do so could mean a summary execution.  Samurai swords were a product of the culture that strived for excellence in all things, to create order out of chaos, and thus are the culmination of special rituals conducted by Japanese sword-smiths to create a weapon so sharp that it is considered to be the finest sword ever made.  Warlords gave them to their officers, their samurai, to lead their armies and manage their lands.  For anyone looking to start a collection of swords and other weapons of their own, the katana is a great place to start.  The Sword of War katana is excellent.  It is a simple katana forged from stainless steel that comes with a fine saya (or scabbard) and a sword stand that will go well with any décor scheme you wish to display this weapon in.  Though not forged the way traditional katana were forged, this will give you a standard by which to judge other blades you happen to come upon.

Happy for the Iron Man

dknight 885003 Happy for the Iron Man

Robert Downey Jr. certainly made the right decision in his big comeback movie, Iron Man. He doesn’t necessarily fit the bill of a superhero. Most superheroes will be younger, more buff, and will be considered hunks. He may not be exactly a youngster, he may have been a hunk but his age doesn’t necessarily classify him as that and he is not your typical heartthrob. Yet he made a comeback and did so in a very grand fashion. And the movie has had a very successful sequel and talks are there will be more in the near future. This is what true actors are made of. They are able to defy conventions, and are able to reinvent themselves long after their peak youth years have gone. Such is the case with the Iron Man and Robert Downey Jr. Now he is an icon himself, and whenever Iron Man is mentioned, it is automatically him that is pictured in everyone’s minds. So if you are happy for the man, for the Iron Man, think about getting some Iron Man replicas like the Iron Man Helmet - Silver. You collect swords for a hobby, so why not get one Iron Man replica to add to your collection?

Ninjas and their Gears

5001 Ninjas and their Gears

What is it about ninjas that make them so special, so mysterious and so enigmatic? Is it the fact that they wear black all the time? Why did they have to wear black anyway? Isn’t black usually associated with the bad guys? Are ninjas bad guys? Aren’t they supposed to be saviors, warriors who can defeat hundreds of enemies? Aren’t they the ones the town depends on when it is in danger of some oppressors wanting to take over the land? Aren’t they the ones who do seemingly impossible tasks with such efficiency and strength? Whatever the reasons are, ninjas are certainly heroes and idols that are looked up to by young boys and teens. They do not show themselves much but when they do, it is certainly something noteworthy and will be talked about for the days to come. Sometimes, their deeds become legend and rightly so. If they can beat five opponents with just one blow, then that is certainly legendary. But ninjas will not be the heroes that they are if they did not have ninja weapons. For example, without a Ninja Grappling Hook they will not be able to scale walls and seemingly fly from one spot to the next. Then of course they need some swords to fight enemies with. Ninjas are still humans after all, though they have superhuman strengths and abilities. Just like any trade, they will need gears and tools to help them perform their duties. But they are still really admirable creatures.

Samurai and Katana

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

What makes the katana so special? It is the fact that the greatest and the most revered and feared warriors in Japanese history, the Samurais, made these swords themselves. These swords are not manufactured in some factories, but they are handmade swords lovingly made by Samurais. Yes, that’s how important they are. And because all warriors believe in certain rituals, these swords are forged not only by metal but by some special ritual, too. The process of making the katana, itself, is considered sacred and one that can only be performed by the most qualified of swordsmen. Each katana is a personal weapon of a samurai master, one that will serve only its master until such time that the master no longer deems it useful. The bond between the samurai master and the katana sword was so strong that there was even a cultish following of the katana. Some say that a samurai is equally tied to his katana as the katana is to his. Some say that a few katanas are so powerful it even commands its samurai lord. Another myth speaks of how a newly forged katana is tested. They say that it needs to slice through several bodies of convicts before it is deemed good enough for a samurai lord. Whatever you believe in, you can own a Handmade Samurai Katana – Black-40.5 Inches without having to go through all the complexities that involve blood and gore.  You can surround it with a lot of myths, as well, and you can have a good story to tell your friends and visitors.

Spears and its Value

In the past, battles were done not with technological advancements, weapons of mass destruction and computers. Battles were crudely done, and skills of fighters were really the deciding factor. Nowadays whoever has the most technology wins. No wonder they say war is the most lucrative business of all. But back in the days, wars were based on simple weapons that can be manufactured and mass produced easily, like Swords, spears and bows. Warriors are made to train to specialize in one particular weapon and that will be what they’ll use during battles. Of course these are usually accompanied by shields, except for those that require to be held with two hands. Smiths were very popular back then, they were considered to be highly skilled people who can supply warriors with the weapons they so badly need. They need to make these swords and spears very lethal so that it can efficiently kill many enemies in shorter periods of time. The Cold Steel Samburu Spear is one very lethal spear that can inflict much damage on opponents.  Spears, of course, was the most popular weapon in the olden times because it was very easy to manufacture and produce. Spearmen train just as hard as swordsmen and they are one of the first lines of offense in any battle. If you appreciate the way battles are done in the past, you may want to get one or two fantasy swords that will remind you how battles were in the past. So unlike the way today’s battles are fought and won.

Go Gothic

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

thumbnail dk nightAW112598176804b174ad075936 Go Gothic

Gothic nowadays is more often than not used to refer to the macabre, the dark side, even the evil. But the reality is that it refers to a style of architecture used during medieval times that liked to use lines and points, together with some not so good looking images like gargoyles and such. Together with the fang-like points or perhaps because they look so sharp it easily connotes pain and death, this style is thought to be associated with vampires and other dark creatures. Nowadays to go “goth” means to wear an ensemble that is composed of black from head to toe, to wear makeup that is made up of kohl and thick eyeliners, and generally to dress like vampires and witches. It means to embrace the macabre and everything that is associated with death and the night. It means to reject brightness, daytime and to embrace the night. This does not mean, however, that they are ugly. In fact, goth has its own beauty, though it will appeal only to those who like it. The common housewife or mom will probably be surprised to see her child wearing Gothic jewelry like the Cruella Wristwatch. She might end up having to buy swords and slashing these clothes, thinking her child has been engaging with cultish stuff. But gothic, like it has been in the past, is a style, and it is a choice. Some people will not like it but some people really embrace it and they look at it as a lifestyle.

Some History About Longswords

Posted by: Dungeon Knight   in General Stuff

dknight 500800 Some History About Longswords

Before 15th century, there were many medieval swords that were used in battles. Among them were bows and arrows, swords, pikes along with many different shields. Together, warriors and knights will go into battle and fight it out with the enemy’s army. Guns were unheard of in the beginning of the century and battles were always long and tedious. Weapons were not particularly efficient in dealing damages to opponents and that is why wars and battles spanned decades and even centuries. This is also the reason why they never stopped inventing new weapons that will be more effective in battle. And thus the 15th Century Longsword was born. This sword serves not only as a sword but it can also be used for parrying and defending against blows. Though it is heavier than other swords, its weight is also used to bludgeon the opponent and to force him to retreat. Though it may not have the same cutting power as more sharp swords, its many other advantages make it a very attractive sword for many knights. When used by knights mounted on horses, it can do a lot of damage to more enemies in shorter periods of time, making It a very efficient weapon of war. The longsword has been instrumental to many wars in the 15th century and after, making it a favorite among many knights and great warriors. To this day and age, to have a longsword is considered a privilege. And that is because this sword is no ordinary sword.
